About the Tutor
I completed my BA (visual arts) in 1990 and a Diploma in Art Education in 1991. And am currently completing my Masters (visual arts) at Curtin University where I received a letter of commendation for academic achievement in 2020. I have worked as a visual arts teacher in both primary and high schools for more than 22 years until I left to continue studies in the art field and work in my studio. I continue to run workshops and classes from various community galleries and community hubs where I teach visual arts to both children and adults.
My studio practice explores my response to time spent standing on the shore gazing out to sea during the golden hour near where I live. My interests lay in cloud characteristics, memory, movement, perception, atmospheric effects, light and spatial aspects.
I use the camera as a means of creating quick responses to 'cloud-moments' or filming cloud movement. These images become a catalyst to revisit memory when back in the studio. Where I respond to the memories with rapid moment invoking my perceptional responses to atmospheric effects of dusk. The materials chosen and the various mediums have either a historical or tangible connection with 'cloud-moments'.
I found that by cross-linking different mediums, I am able to demonstrate an embodiment of the expansive and perceptional experience of clouds.
