Class Description
Learning outcomes:
Become familiar with the handling and application of oil paints.
Develop understanding of values, composition, brushwork, edges, colour temperature, aerial perspective and how they can be used to create a well-designed and effective painting.
Produce two paintings using two different techniques.
Topics Covered:
Equipment: brushes, palette, palette knives, mediums and solvents, canvasses etc, paints.
Preparation of canvas prior to painting.
Beginning a painting – various methods.
Paint application – various techniques and styles.
Mixing colours – achieving accurate colours with a limited palette.

Materials list:
You have a choice of bringing your own materials (see below list) or purchasing a kit for $70 which has everything you need that you can keep. Paint and mediums are supplied by the centre for use while in class during this course.
-Palette- wooden, rectangular
-Brushes 2 good quality small/medium and med/lge.
-Palette knife
-2 canvas panels (approximately A3 size)
* The materials in the kit have been selected by the tutor specifically for their quality and ease of learning
Tutor
Lawrence has been drawing or painting most of his life and has worked in most media but his preferred medium for painting is oil.
He attended Claremont School of Art for a number of years, focusing on oil painting, including studying portraiture with one of WA’s most acclaimed portrait artists.
Lawrence’s style is largely realist and mostly representational. The majority of his work is in the genres of portraiture, landscapes or birds and animals.
